Miami, FL, May 2, 2017 – Joined by Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Giménez, CIVIQ Smartscapes today unveiled the new Miami-Dade County WayPoint at Government Center in Miami. The new WayPoint marks the launch of the world’s first fully integrated smart city ecosystem, which will help Miami-Dade County better connect and communicate to all who live, work in and visit the County.

For the first time ever, CIVIQ will deploy a full solution to smart cities that includes software, hardware and applications that will enable engagement with people and offer access to county services. Through interactive displays and a connected digital experience, CIVIQ’s people-centered technology provides free high-speed public Wi-Fi for easy access to communications networks, timely transportation schedules to improve citizen mobility, and emergency alerts to enhance safety and security throughout the community.

“Miami-Dade and its leadership are a model for smart city innovation,” said George Burciaga, Managing Director, Global Government Development and Innovation at CIVIQ Smartscapes. “Municipalities around the world are racing to become intelligent digital cities and Miami-Dade is a great example of that digital transformation. By connecting streets, transportation, services and most importantly people, the County is building a more efficient and sustainable place to live.”

“CIVIQ’s solution focuses on the heartbeat of every city, its people,” he said. “Our technology delivers a new model of engagement and solves important challenges that every community faces—in communications, public Wi-Fi, safety, and transportation. We are fortunate to work with amazing municipalities such as Miami-Dade, Chicago, Dallas and New York. In addition, we are pleased to join forces with great partners like AT&T, Cisco, and Intel to help us meet the needs of every community.”

Earlier this year, Mayor Giménez and the Board of County Commissioners approved a partnership with CIVIQ to install and maintain up to 300 interactive digital WayPoints – branded as Connect 305 – which will include free public Wi-Fi; over 1,000 Wi-Fi devices in public transit vehicles; and 50 additional Wi-Fi devices for transit stations. CIVIQ supports the County’s mission to help more people connect—to each other and to critical county services.

“When technology and transportation come together, Miami-Dade County becomes a richer community with more opportunities,” said Mayor Giménez. “This new partnership with CIVIQ Smartscapes is one additional step toward our County becoming a smart city.”

“These new interactive kiosks will offer greater connectivity in our transit system, which leads to increased efficiency, less downtime, and an overall better experience for our passengers,” said Alice N. Bravo, P.E., Director of the Department of Transportation and Public Works. “Our partnership with CIVIQ will not only provide free Wi-Fi for our residents, it will enhance engagement with our services, as well as provide easier access to information.”

“We are proud that our partnership with CIVIQ will help Miami-Dade County better connect with all who live and visit our community,” said Esteban Bovo, Jr., Chairman of the Miami-Dade County Commission. “From visitors to residents alike, the new WayPoints are a full-solution model for engagement and communication in my District and throughout the County. As a commuter myself, I am looking forward to the enhanced transit experience.”

CIVIQ will continue to install WayPoints throughout Miami-Dade County over the next 24 months.
